If you’re planning a trip to Jackson Hole, there’s a lot to consider. What kinds of activities does your family enjoy? When is the best time to enjoy those activities? While Jackson Hole is well-known for its skiing and winter fun, it’s also a fantastic warm-weather destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. If you’re planning your Jackson Hole vacation around whitewater rafting, here’s what you should know.
The Best Time for Whitewater Rafting in Jackson Hole
Our season at Jackson Hole Whitewater Rafting runs from the first week of May all the way through September, which means that if you want to go rafting during your vacation, you’ll need to plan it for a time within this window. As soon as you’ve settled on a date for your trip, be sure to book your whitewater rafting adventure with us—you don’t want to plan your vacation only to find out that the days you have available for rafting are sold out!
Even within our season, there are some variations in whitewater conditions on the Snake River. For more seasoned whitewater rafters and adventure seekers, you may want to book your trip during late spring or early summer when the snow from the mountains is melting into the river, raising water levels and creating bigger rapids.
If, on the other hand, you have a family with young children or you haven’t been whitewater rafting before, a trip in mid-to-late summer might be more your speed. Although there are still rapids on the Snake River during this time, the water isn’t quite as high, which means it’s calmer.
